Ferris Wheels (2009)
The Swingle Singers, founded in 1963 by the American Ward Swingle, have reinvented themselves time and time again in several generations. But with "Ferris Wheel", the group has succeeded in releasing the most important and original recording in a long time. Under the broad thematic umbrella of "Singer-Songwriter", the eight singers unfold a firework of sounds in the typical close-microphone Swingles sound with songs from Sting, Björk, James Taylor, and Billy Joel.
Here is the link to the English review of the CD by the Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB): www.rarb.org/review/999.html - Quote: "Ferris Wheels is a timeless, must-own for any true fan of vocal ensemble excellence"
On the group's website, www.swinglesingers.com, there's an audio stream with clips of the tracks on Ferris Wheel. Not on the CD, but a good example to see and hear the sound of the new generation is this collaboration with the YouTube multi-track vocal music star Peter Hollens, a wonderful video of the traditional "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" (Arr. & Vocal Percussion: Tom Anderson): www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaJ3adMgsbY
