This is probably one of the most beautiful Christmas concerts that one can purchase on DVD. Every year, the Medlz tour churches across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with their Christmas program. A concert enjoyment of a quite special kind, because the Medlz connect themselves again with their children's choir background. One more time, they prove their vocal strength that comes into fruition audibilly in wonderfully elaborate arrangements. Therefore, a must for Christmas and acappella fans alike. This DVD is Christmas!
The Medlz: Sabine, Nelly, Maria, and Silvana.
They met each other as five Dresden natives in the Dresden Philharmonic Children's Choir, in which they learned their craft for 10 years and discovered their love for acappella music. Under the name "Nonets", they've made a name for themselves since 1999.
Their first album released at the time, "Samtweich" ("Velvety"), was nominated in San Francisco for a 2004 contemporary acappella recording award for best rock/pop album. The award is widely regarded as the Grammy under the acappella awards. At the Westspitzen Festival, they won first place in the acappella category. In 2002, the radio station Antenne Mecklenburg-Vorpommern nominated the five girls to their "Youngstars 2002" list.
In June 2005, the band signed their artist exclusive contract to the SONY BMG label, to which the release of an album followed in 2006. The musician Tobias Künzel (Die Prinzen) was the leading producer for it. On October 20th, 2005, the band changed their name from "Nonets" to "Medlz". This followed successful TV appearances like "Die Goldene Henne" ("The Golden Hen") (MDR), the hit summer festival ZDF, or the ZDF TV garden.
In 2009, the contract with SONY BMG was cancelled in mutual agreement, and the musical reins were taken into their own hands. Their own label and studio, "Samtweich", was founded. On May 8th, 2009, the release of the album "Aufgetaucht" ("Emerged") followed. The end of 2009 saw the release of the "Weihnachtsplatte" ("Christmas Record") and the end of 2010 the release of "Unsere Zeit" ("Our Time").
In 2012, the artists were awarded with the "Freiburger Leiter" ("Freiburg Head"), the prize of the trade visitors at the International Culture Market in Freiburg for the best performance in the category of music.
At the beginning of 2013, Lydia left due to her job as mom of the band; however, she works still as tour manager in the background. The ladies proved in summer 2013 that it goes on with four. They received a gold diploma at the International Acappella Contest in Graz, Austria, and they placed 2nd in pop.
On August 22nd, 2014, they released their fourth album "Bekannt aus Film und Fernsehen" ("Known from Film and TV"). And since the Medlz can't sit still, they go back again into the studio. The fifth album, another Christmas record, is the upcoming project for the summer of 2014. On November 28th, 2014, the second Christmas album, "Wenn es Winter wird" ("When it's Winter"), was released.
