In Brazil, the vocal sextet BR6 is seen often as the Brazilian counterpart of Take 6 - and this is not unjustifiable; the music of the a cappella group Take 6 largely influences BR6. However, BR6, the Brazilian jazz group based in Rio de Janiero, has found in the meantime their own style, as it is clear to hear on this CD.
This is the second Portuguese album from BR6. It is the second part of the CARA-winning CD "Música Popular Brasileira A Cappella" (2005 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award winner in the World/Folk album category). In October 2009, this album was released in Japan under the title "Bossa A Cappella".
And here is the Link to three CD reviews from the Recorded A Cappella Review Board, aka Catherine Lewis, Jonathan Minkoff, and Rebecca Christie.
BR6 has a story similar to that of many other Brazilian vocal groups: singer-friends who know other singers and come together to make a vocal group. Unlike many others who did that with voice and guitar, this group (6 musicians and arrangers with elaborate musical schooling) picked the most difficult way of making vocal music: without any instruments.
